Introduction / History

The Mpompo Pobyeng people live in the forests of eastern Cameroon, especially in the Kadey and Boumba-and-Ngoko divisions. They speak Mpumpong (also known by many related dialect names such as Mpongmpong, Mpopo, and Pobyeng), a Bantu language with several closely related varieties across this region. Their communities are part of a wider network of forest-dwelling clans with long-standing ties to the land and shared cultural ancestry.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Mpompo Pobyeng families traditionally live in small, scattered forest settlements organized around extended kinship groups. Hunting, gathering, and small-scale agriculture form the core of daily life, with the surrounding rainforest providing essential resources and shaping their seasonal rhythms. Local traditions, storytelling, and communal activities help maintain cultural identity and strengthen relationships within the community.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Many within the Mpompo Pobyeng community identify with Christianity. Scripture-based materials exist in Mpumpong-related dialects through audio Bible stories and evangelistic recordings, providing access to biblical teaching in a language they understand.

What Are Their Needs?

Ongoing spiritual growth would be strengthened by continued discipleship and the development of local leaders who can guide emerging churches with wisdom and biblical understanding. Access to clear, culturally meaningful scripture resources in Mpumpong strengthens faith and encourages long-term maturity. Communities also value improved education, stable livelihoods, and strong family structures that support resilience and wellbeing.

Prayer Items

Pray for Mpompo Pobyeng believers to grow in spiritual maturity and reflect Christ in their families and communities.
Pray for emerging local leaders to be equipped to guide and teach with clarity, humility, and faithfulness.
Pray for the Mpompo Pobyeng to become active participants in God's mission, sharing the gospel with neighboring peoples.
Pray for continued access to Scripture and teaching materials in Mpumpong and related dialects.
Pray for God's provision in their daily needs—health, education, and sustainable livelihoods.
